Last week I went up to Brisbane with my great friend Helen, to join a group of volunteers to make joey pouches for our rescued wildlife babies. It was just a small gesture…but as usual any form of giving or volunteering seems to enormously benefit the ones who give.
It was a day of making friends and easy open conversations. We had a common purpose and it made everyone feel at ease with each other … we didn’t need a reason to start talking. If only this could be the norm in society. Through all the unbearable sadness and grief, Australians, (indeed the world), is learning the hard way what we value most.
Lastly, could I please acknowledge the woman in the video who took off her shirt to wrap a stranded and burnt koala. She saw the stranded koala as she was driving past, stopped, went into the burning charred bush and delicately wrapped the koala in her shirt - she used her water bottle to ease its burns. After the rescue she walked out of the bush in her bra, and in a matter of fact way, handed the koala to wildlife rescuers and said she would be on her way.
